I'm still on the fence about participating this year. I have a non-fiction project in mind, but I doubt it will run to 50,000 words. Seeing as how I'd be a NaNoRebel anyway, I could always jump to another project, I suppose. Still, it's a big commitment, and right in the really busy season for retail(day job sector).
Not being a planner, I'm not actually preparing for NaNoWriMo. I'm just thinking it over a bit while I get back to seriously editing my mainstream second draft. The editing process is going much faster with me not reading the story. I'm going through my notes from the last read-through and making changes, as well as painstakingly removing the double spaces I put between my sentences. Years of typewriter typing got me into that habit, and while I was writing the first draft, I didn't really care. Who wants to stem the creative juices to retrain their fingers?
Another thing I'm working on now is being proactive(instead of reactive - extra points to whoever guesses what book I'm reading). So far I've had two really awesome days at work, and now I'm turning my attention to my house and my writing, where I expect good results.
And now back to work editing....
